HOX! Changes can occur, so follow the Tutor TG channel and your tutor responsible’s info to keep up to date.
MEETING FOR THE FIRST TIME
For Mursus & Marsus
Meet your mursus or marsus during the week of Jäänmurtajaiset, before the main event. (Note: exchange students arrive later.) You’re free to choose the day, time, and activity, but keep the activities non-alcoholic for the first meetup. Drinks await at Jäänmurtajaiset!
JÄÄNMURTAJAISET / ICE BREAKER
For Everyone
Meet up with your group beforehand, then head to Maxine for a fun evening where new students will meet each other for the first time. Help them break the ice and feel welcome at KY! Cloakroom fee must be paid in advance via Kide and wristbands will be given at the entrance. More info on this later!
SKUMPPAHETKI / TRADITIONAL SPARKLING WINE MOMENT
For Mursus (Others optional)
Orientation week kicks off with a classic gesture from the tutors, by offering a glass of sparkling wine to welcome mursus to Aalto. Tutors are responsible for getting the sparkling. Don’t forget non-alcoholic alternatives.
MURSU EXTRAVAGANZA
For Mursus
A campus event where tutor groups complete tasks, compete, and help mursus connect with one another. Organized by TC, with instructions shared at the start. Make sure your mursus join KY during the event so they can buy their overalls later!
KERHOJEN YÖ / NIGHT OF THE CLUBS
For Everyone
An open event where KY’s clubs present themselves to new students. Mursus, marsus, and exchange students are all welcome. There’s school the next day, so encourage taking it easy and spend the evening preferably without drinking.
MURSUMESTARUUS / MURSU CHAMPIONSHIP
For Mursus
A fun, outdoorsy event hosted by LiHy and KY’s sports clubs. Remember to wear suitable clothing. Held in two shifts: 16–18 and 18–20. Check the timetable to see which slot your group has.
EXCHANGE EXTRAVAGANZA
For Exchangees
A welcome event for exchange students, organized by TC. They’ll explore campus and Finnish culture while bonding with each other. Tutors receive instructions for the event at the start. Afterwards, everyone is welcome to join the Subcommittee Evening afterparty.
JAOSTORIEHA / SUBCOMMITTEE EVENING
For Mursus & Marsus, Afterparty for Everyone
KY’s subcommittees introduce themselves and KUJ sells overalls during timed checkpoints. All students doing their first year at BIZ, meaning mursus and marsus, can apply to all subcommittees. KY membership is required to buy overalls. The afterparty also welcomes exchange students (who can get their overalls at the Welcome Evening).
OTASUUNNISTUS / OTAORIENTEERING
For Mursus & Marsus
AYY’s traditional checkpoint crawl introduces new students to Otaniemi’s student life. Groups of 4–6 mursus/marsus navigate the checkpoints together without their tutor, as the activities are designed for small groups. Two afterparties will be organized at Smökki and Saha. The venues don’t have capacity to fit all new Aalto students, so some may be left without an afterparty ticket. Be clear about this to mursus/marsus to avoid disappointment. Tutors can take the night off or organize their own get-together.
MEET YOUR MASTERS
For Marsus
A relaxed evening for Master’s students hosted by KY’s Master’s Committee. Get to know fellow students and visit subject club checkpoints. Please be on time at the event. The evening continues at the Mursu Party.
MURSUBILEET / MURSU PARTY
For Everyone
The final highlight of orientation week, organized by KUJ. Mursus, marsus, and exchange students can attend with their tutors. Tutors must collect wristbands for their group in advance on the same day. Please don’t bring any glass bottles to keep the event safe!
WELCOME EVENING
For Exchangees
KY-SUB welcomes exchange students to Finland with a party! At the Welcome Evening exchange students can also buy their overalls and tickets for KY-SUB’s upcoming autumn trips.
AALTO PARTY & AALTO AFTER PARTY
For Everyone
Aalto Party, hosted by the University and AYY, celebrates the new academic year at Alvar Aalto Park with different tents and activities by different associations. You can see the full timetable of the day at University's and AYY’s websites. The fun continues at the Aalto After Party in Dipoli, organized by AYY’s Festival Committee (FestTMK). Note: tickets for the after party are limited and may run out. Tutors will get instructions on how to buy after party tickets later.
