Tutor committee & contact information

For most of the students, it's very likely that their first touch to KY and the School of Business has been through their very own tutor. The Tutor Committee, TC, recruits and trains all the new tutors that will guide the new students to the world of Aalto, academia, KY and memorable student life.

The main goal of TC is to ensure that all tutors have the abilities and tools to create a safe and enjoyable atmosphere for the new students. TC organises all tutor related events, such as Tutor Cottage and Tutorlauluilta.

TC consists of the Tutor Coordinator (who is employed by the Learning Services of Aalto University School of Business), vice chair, nine committee members and KY Board's new students representative and master's students representative. Committee members are either responsible for Bachelor's, Exchange or Master's tutors. TC is here to make sure that the new students and tutors have an amazing kick-start to the academic year!

Chain of communication

Always try to resolve issues and get your questions answered by others in your tutor group. If you do not manage to resolve the issue on your own, you should then contact your TC responsible. They can then consult the Tutor Coordinator, if necessary. Visually put:

As a tutor, it is important that you tell the new students about KY, starting from their very first day at Aalto. 

Founded in 1911, KY is the student association for every kylteri in Aalto Univeristy and operates as a part of Aalto community. KY is built on two pillars:

• Aalto University Business Students (KY ry)
• Foundation for Business Students in Aalto University (KY Foundation).

By becoming a KY member, kylteris can accsess everything KY has to offer. All student who have enrolled as an attending student at Aalto University School of Business (except exchangees) can join KY for free. There is something for everyone when it comes to KY's activities, all the way from a movie club to racket games and wine tasting! Encourage your students to explore KY and find their place in out community.

KY activities

There’s no one “right” way to get involved in KY. The beauty of our community lies in the fact that everyone’s path and role is deifferent, so introduce your students to the range of opportunities at hand, encourage them to join assosiations and help them find what interests them and their place within our community. You can suggest activities based on the personal interests of your students. However, remeber to stay neutral and inclusive. Avoid favoring certain majors, clubs, or roles and let your students form their own opinons on what they want to do at KY.

WHEN YOU TALK ABOUT KY'S ASSOCIATIONS

• Try to introduce different associations in a versatile way and visit several association checkpoints during Otasuunnistus etc.
  
• Remember to stay objective. Even if you think one specific association is the best thing ever, give the new students opportunity to familiarise themselves with the different associations

Volunteering At Ky

New friends, skills and experiences. Hard work and rewarding results. Wappu festivities in overalls, organizing events, the Annual Ball in an evening gown or a tailcoat. Taking part in KY activities grants you opportunities like these and much more!

Looking back at your student years, you’ll surely prefer remembering not only auditoriums and lectures at Aalto BIZ, but also the hands-on experience and lifelong friendships gained while studying. Without the various sorts of activities arranged byKY’s volunteers, there would be no KY at all – and without newcomers like you, KY would have no future.

There’s something for everyone with various roles, opportunities, experiences and different workloads, so encourage your students to find what interests them and join!

AYY

Aalto University Student Union (AYY) represents all 14,000 Aalto Bachelor’s and Master’s students, with optional membership for exchange and doctoral students. It supports student life through housing, services, events, and advocacy.

AYY aims to offer the best student life in Finland and to defend Aalto students' rights. Its most valued service is the affordable student housing they provide with over 2,600 apartments and more in development. AYY also supports a vibrant student culture in Otaniemi through events, services, and over 200 associations.

How to Get Involved?

Much like KY, AYY is built on student activity and volunteers. From big parties and student traditions to advocacy and shaping the student culture, there’s something for everyone. Around 200 volunteers help shape AYY and student life at Otaniemi, and you can become one of them, representing kylteris in our community.

AYY offers roles in:

• Other volunteer positions and project roles

Volunteering

After the council and the board, AYY’s six sections form the core of the volunteer community. Each section includes 5–10 members, many of whom also lead their own committees. Committees are either recruited with open calls to apply for specific events or interests or assembled with members drawn from association members, often from guild boards.

Focuses on orientation and first-year experience.

Some committees recruit chairs or members separately
